Fire Station 62 is located in Awatukee, AZ. Complimenting this site, with a beautiful view to the mountain range in the background. The Design Approach is to create an oasis through the fire stations facade, open wind corridors, and Native Arizona Vegetation.

Objective

  • Designing a regenerative Fire Station that focuses on creating a micro climate that allowed the space to naturally be cooled down.

  • Minimized sqft to reduce impact to the environment on the property.

Scope

  • Designing a functional space for the fire fighters and the community space.

  • Utilizing Revit put in the design into the program.

  • Prep the 3D work to be render ready.

  • Creating Scene's that show case areas of their landscape and the key features.

Key Details

  • Vegetation: Usage of Arizona drought tolerant vegetation.

  • Special Features: Corten steel facade, gabion walls, clear storied butterfly roof, and breeze corridor.

  • Location: Located near beautiful residential neighborhoods and hiking trials.

Design Approach and Execution

Concept and Vision

  • Design Philosophy: A regenerative design focusing on blending the structure into the natural surroundings.

  • Key Features: Corten Steel, Gabion walls to reduce noise, and drought tolerant trees to help cool down the space.

  • Inspirations: Modern desert architecture and rustic corten steel.

Execution

Phase 1: Site Analysis

  • Studied pedestrian traffic and the natural environment to see what wild life would be impacted by the structure.

  • Analyzed acoustics and building material usage that help reduce urban heat island effect.

Phase 2: Design and Planning

  • Designed a spaces that allowed the fire fighters to be able function in their work space, living quarters, and incorporating a space for the community.

  • Incorporated large windows and skylights to flood the interior with natural light during the day.

  • Created a space to allow the community to get safety training on how to be safe when going outdoors.

  • As well as life skills training to those in the community that need it.

Phase 3: Sustainable Materials and Technologies

  • Used locally sourced material.

  • Integrated soft, ambient lighting with pendant fixtures over tables and accent lighting for artwork and plants.

I was shocked! I was in awe during the reveal! The design perfectly encapsulates our vision of sustainability and warmth, with every detail crafted to bring functionallity to this project. The owner has truly brought our dream to life. Thank You!
